Anything tricky about removing "Alternator 1996 Grand Caravan"
I have recently purchased a used 1996 Grand Caravan and have several fixes to a complete: The first major is to get the battery light to go out,, I checked the battery voltage with the vehicle running "only 12.4 volts, Not sure what is best ,take off the alternator and have it tested. I never dealt with a sepertine belt so not sure if I should attempt to remove the alternator. The area looks tight and not sure what else has to be removed. Brackets or what can get in the way, or will it just slide out after removing the mounting bolts. Any guidelines would be helpful. I am thinking of just the selling it right after getting this problem fixed. After reading about the early 3.3 L.. I am a bit scared to take this for an out of town trip. It still has a lot of get up and go though.

Re: Anything tricky about removing "Alternator 1996 Grand Caravan"
I checked the charging system this morning and it was putting out 14.2 volts for a few minutes then back down to 12.2.
Does this vehicle have an external voltage regulator that is easy to locate? I have been driving my GTO and Blazer for so long, I do not even know where to find these parts on a Chrysler product. I am hoping to get this vehicle running solid soon. Also the turn signals are now working again and they have been out for a few days. Still have this vehicle in the driveway and test driving it before deciding to get is going right to keep it for a while and just drive it around town for loacl transportation only, or fix the battery idiot light only and sell it. It has been a bit colder these days, so the instrument lights have been working fair. This vehicle has just about every bug on this forum, but it still runs OK. It appears that these vehicles keep running with all the wierd noises and flakey lights and doorlocks. Any suggestions would help. Thanks |

12.2 vdc is a bit low. Here's how to do more testing and remove it: http://www.autozone.com/az/cds/en_us...rInfoPages.htm
