Have a few questions about my marquis

Hello all,
i recently purchased a 1995 Marquis GS in relativly great shap save for a few minor issues which i was hoping some people could help me with.

1. The ignition switch on the coloum is loose, not losse enough to start wihtout the key but if it is not placed properly the key will go in crooked.

2.The car has a remote start added and every once in a while it apprently shuts off (this was told to me by the PO)

3. He also told me that from time to time the trunk will pop open now like i said i just got the car so i have not seen this happen yet but it did the same thing on my SHO when i had it and i never did figure it out.

4. The final thing and probably the most irritating is the radio has all of 2 FM stations it can recieve, the rest is all static. The car does have the glass antenna but it does not seem to function properly, could this be intereference from the remote starter or the keyless entry? (the key fob does not look like my dads 04 crown vic's which is why im wondering.

All in all i'm very happy the car was had for under $1000.00 and is very needed as my old car's computer blew up..lol.

I hope someone has some answers!

Thanks,
Dave

Re: Have a few questions about my marquis

the iggy tumblers are a breeze to change. i have pulled the ones in my marquis several times for column repairs and\or cluster repairs and changing. i have also dont it a few times on my buddys 97 vic. i would suggest getting a new iggy lock and having it keyed to your key. that way you only have 1 or 2 keys instead of 2 or 3 depending on if yours is a one or two key system.

to change it all you have ot do is this....

#1 disconnect teh battery
#2 put key in ignition and turn to RUN position
#3 take an awl or #1 phillips screwdriver and on the bottom of the column cover is a hole that is in line with the release pin. push pin. it may be a pain to find the first time as its all by feel. so take your time and you'll find it.
#4 once the pin is pushed you should be able to pull the keyway out of the column.
#5 insert new keyway. i always put it into the run position but i dont think thats totally nessessary. others may have a better idea on that.
#6 turn key to lock position and try pulling it out. if it doesn't come out you have it in place.
#7 reconnect battery and reset your radio presets adn clock.

you can get em at either the dealer OR a normal ap store. BUT the one from the other place might not be totally right for your car. it may work fine but i prefer to use OE parts if i can. it may be more for the part but at tath point you KNOW its right.

as for the trunk issue it may be a shorted switch or the popper itsself has an intermittent short. the switches are cheap at the dealer. i think my buddy picked his up for like $12 or so. plus those are common on almost every ford product for trunk or fuel door release.

oh and also pull out the radio and just make sure the antenna is plugged into the back. i had an aftermarket radio that would pick up a few stations but not real well. come to find out the antenna had come loose.

Re: Have a few questions about my marquis

Ill look into those thanks!

Oh on the radio it was the antenna but get this the plug had pulled from the cable...lol So as of right now it's being held together with a really small hoseclamp and it works , till i activate the rear defrost, then it goes all static again...lol. Is there another ground near the rear window? Perhaps behind one of the pillars?

Also i just noticed this tonight, i have a 5 beep tone that emits from the passenger side, whenever i start the car, its not the seatbelt thing or the lights but a very shapr short beep that goes 5 times then pauses then repeats 2 more times kinda worries me but since the car has the aftermarket starter i wonder if thats it causing the noise. oh and it does it if i start with the key or the starter)

Srry for the paragraphs but i do appreciate the help =)
