'95 535 won't start

My dad and a friend bought a wrecked '95 535 which ran when they picked it up... although it quit after 50 feet and hasn't started since. The rear end where it had been hit has been fixed (not severe damage) and they are ready to get it running but it still won't start. My dad is a mechanic and has been working on cars for 30+ years now, however he doesn't have much experience with BMWs and can't find the information he needs. The wiring diagrams available on All Data apparently don't give enough information. He has tried for weeks to get it to start (in between working on customer's cars... he owns the shop so money comes first!) and hasn't been able to figure it out so he asked me to find a forum and see if anyone has any ideas. If we can get it running, I would really like to buy it from him. They have offered it to me at $1200 right now and then whatever it costs to finish the body work (rear bumper cover) and get it running.

Here is what I know: The crash module has been replaced. When trying to start the car, the flashers come on immediately but can be turned off by turning them on on the dash and then turning them off. The engine turns over. There is spark. There is fuel pressure. The car sounds like it is trying to start but only for a short time and then it won't. He has tried giving it gas, not giving it gas and a couple of other things. He believes it might have something to do with a flasher relay or something. Everything is so integrated into everything else that he isn't sure what to check or where to start. Anyone have any ideas or questions for me so I can find out and get back?
