Emergency brake lite.
For some reason I got into the super trooper the other day and when I took the "e" brake off the light stayed on... and has continued to stay on, brakes are not sticking. Any suggestions? It's a 91 LS. Going to be doing a brake job on it in the next week or so.

Hey Chris
I think you have a switch that is stuck. I looked in my chiltons manual and in the wiring schematics they show a switch on the handle of the e-brake. I'm not sure what type of e-brake is on your trooper. Mine is on the center console and I'm sure I would have to take the console apart to get to that switch. It could be just dirty or it could have shorted together. Good luck. Copter Steve |

Thanks for the idea. I took that switch out and it is just a simple ground switch, handle goes in and switch brakes the ground. It's working fine. So somewhere along that wire from switch to light it's grounding out... I took a look at the cluster pannel and I'm guessing that there is likely something wrong with the pannel. Any other ideas? While I was back there I pulled the bulb, that'll fix it for now!

Hey Chris,
It looks like your way ahead of me. I think taking out the bulb is a good fix for now. You may want to check your brake system out anyway. These troopers are a different breed. My brake master cylinder has a low level switch in it. Maybe it turns on the brake lite when the brake fluid is low. Just a guess. Copter Steve

Ya I think that's a good idea. I've got the day off tomorrow and the brakes have been squeek'n up a storm in the back so I'm going to do a full rear brake job. Thanks for the suggestion.

Well I redid the rear brakes this morning, new calipers, rotors, and pads. The calipers were totally shot, passenger side piston was probably stuck a half inch out. In the end the brake light went out! Surprised me because I thought the brake system was much more simple than that, I had no idea it had some sort of electrical sensor somewhere other than a switch. It seems like the back driverside pad is slightly rubbing on the new rotor, if I have time I'll take a look at it tomorrow. Otherwise I'll be doing the front ones sometime next week when my rotors from r1concept show up. I figured I would order a pair of drilled and sloted rotors from them since after shipping the cost was still the same as the local parts store here.
