Rough Idle and No Fast Idle When Cold
I have a 1995 Windstar that I just purchased. The car runs great except at idle where it runs rough. This occurs whether the engine is warm or cold. It actually got cold outside for the first time the other night and I noticed when I started it up in the morning, that the idle was only very slightly higher than when it was warm. (Around 950 RPM). Could the two issues be related and any suggestions on where I would start looking? No check engine light on at anytime by the way.
Thanks in advance.... |

Re: Rough Idle and No Fast Idle When Cold
The first thing to do would be to make sure that all the tune-up items are up to date.
This would include the fuel filter and I would put a can of Berryman's B-12 Chemtool into the gasoline tank to clean up the fuel injectors, which are reliable, but prone to getting dirty. Take a look under the hood when it is dark, and you have it at idle....and see if there is any visible arcing from the ignition system.....like from the spark plug wires or coil pack. Once you are certain that the routine tune up items are in good shape, then one can look for other causes. I am guessing that the Check Engine Light is not lit.
