air conditioner hot on one side
I have a 2002 Explorer with a dual-temperature control air conditioner. It works fine on the driver's side, but the passenger side blows like it is just a fan - no cool air.
The repair shop said it would cost $74 to figure out what it wrong and had no guess or estimate in the meantime. Is this a costly problem? The back seat air conditioner works fine. It's just the passenger side in the front seat. |

Re: air conditioner hot on one side
Did you ever find out what caused this problem? I have a problem with the driver side air being okay(cold), and it is warm on the passenger side. By the way, this happens even with the A/C not in the dual temperature mode. Please let me know.

Re: air conditioner hot on one side
I fixed the problem on my Impala. There are little servo motors (actuator)that control the flaps which mix the hot/cold air for each side of the cabin. The motor on the side that does not do what you tell it is not working.
I bought my part at a GM dealer and they gave me a schematic of the cabin heating system. I was able to access the servo motor from under the dash and replace. 2 screws and one wire harness. btw, the "bad servo" in my car would only spin in one direction, thus always keeping the flap that goes to heat closed (I had no heat on my drivers side). The new one would spin clockwise when I called for heat, and CCW when I called for cold. |

Quote:
Cycle key from off to on.(Do not start vehicle) Press OFF and FLOOR buttons at the same time release them and immediately press the AUTO button. The Digital diaplay will display all icons for a short while then it will display a code ## ##. If it doesn't display anything this means all electrical components are ok. If I remember correctly 2267 is the code for right side(passengers side) Temperature blend door actuator(motor). |

Forgot to tell you this, to exit diagnostic mode press any button, if you press DEFROST it will delete the code(s) in the modules memory.

Re: air conditioner hot on one side
How can I get to the front servo motor? By the way, the air has gotten warmer for all the vents in the vehicle. Any ideas?

Re: air conditioner hot on one side
With the air getting warmer, it could be due to a low refrigerant charge, or maybe you have a Dual Coolant Control Valve (DCCV) that is sticking. If you turn the temperature set point all the way down to 60 degrees F, does the air come out of the vents nice and cold?

Re: air conditioner hot on one side
After looking at the Factory service manual, it does not appear that the Explorer uses a DCCV, so the blend doors are probably the issue if you rule out the charge point of the refrigerant.
