2004 Yukon Keyless Entry & Memory Presets Problem

Hello all,

I have a 2004 Yukon that has exhibited this odd behavior noted below since the day I purchased the Yukon. It should be noted that the issue is intermittent and that I have taken the Yukon for service without results. Any ideas are appreciated as I have no idea what I am up against.

The 2004 Yukon obviously has a keyless entry and comes with (2) FOBS. Both FOBS have a number on the back, (1) and (2). The 2004 Yukon has the ability to store (2) memory presets for driver preference, i.e seat position, pedal position, seat exit position, etc...

To recall the desired position one simply uses their FOB and unlocks the door which will recall the desired selections for the driver OR one enters the vehicle and press the (1) or (2) button to recall the desired position. This leads me to the problem...

Intermittently the desired preset positions will not work from the FOB or the button. For example, when depressing the unlock button the driver seat position will not adjust. Once entering the vehicle, depressing the (1) button will not do anything; in addition none of the other desired presets work.

I am hesitant to bring the Yukon in again as they were unable to identify the problem and it is intermittent. Obviously this isn’t a critical problem and is more bothersome as I can’t identify the root cause. Any insight would be appreciated.

Hi, if the 1 button does not work either, then the remote control is not the problem.
The Memory Seat Module would be my suspect besides wiring problems.
Ask the dealer to help you while you still can with the warranty, just be nice to them.
They have to fix it. You can't.

There are two documents regarding memory seats issues. Neither one fits your described issue but read them, it may help.

Condition
Some customers may comment that with repeated cycling of the memory seat between the 'exit' and one of the 'presets', the position of the seat may "creep" forward or rearward out of expected adjustment.

Cause
There is a coding deficiency in the software for the memory seat module.

Correction
No repair is available at this time. This is a recognized issue and engineering is working to revise the software to correct this condition. DO NOT replace the memory seat module. Replacing the module will not correct the condition.

This message is in follow-up to GM Messenger number VSS20040205 pertaining to the full size trucks memory seat module. Due to numerous dealer inquiries, I need to inform you that the revised module to correct the seat creep condition, that is that the preset memory position changes gradually over time, will not be available until the year end timeframe. Do not replace the module in the meantime for this condition as the current module will not correct it.

However, a different condition is currently being reported. If you encounter a vehicle where the preset seat position changes significantly, as opposed to gradually, on a random basis, please capture and report the following information using the field product reporting procedure.

I'm glad that those documents show that GM is aware that there is a problem with the memory seat function, rather than having GM tell me that either they can't reproduce the problem (a common response, but unfortunately one which you don't have much to argue against) or that it may be just user error (or to put it another way, you were just imagining things).

Too bad they (apparently) still haven't found a fix yet...not very reassuring since this problem has existed since the '03 model year (effectively, almost 3 calendar years as of now).

Did you ever get any resolution to your problem? I'm having the same problem today. How did you get it fixed?
