93 Caravan water pump
Hello all.
I am being lazy by posting this. My 93 Caravan (140,000... 3.0L V6) has developed an overheating issue. I was looking to find out if the water pump is driven by the timing belt, and if so, if anyone had the timing diagram and or any helpful hints. I am no stranger to this type of repair, but I do know the value of others input. I am guessing water pump because the radiator is full and has good pressure. It just gets hot during normal operation, and up till now I have had no problems in three years. Thank you in advance. A |

Re: 93 Caravan water pump
pump is driven by the timing belt, but has the thermostat been changed lately?cheap and easy to replace, good place to start with. Also a plugged rad can cause overheating and still be full.

Re: 93 Caravan water pump
The thermostat was bad (stuck open). However the timing belt was so loose it could not adequately drive the pump. I changed the pump anyway and all is well. EXCEPT: Now it smokes at long lights (in other words on idle) from the exhaust. Maybe the valves are shot. Worst case I will just switch to synthetic oil so you at least don't SEE the smoke. Thanxs for your input.

Re: 93 Caravan water pump
smoking at idle usually caused by bad valve seals, can be done with the head still on the engine
