1979 F-100 Timing

I have a 1979 Ford F-100 4wd 4.9l. I need to set the timing. The book says to refer to the sticker under the hood. That would be great if that sticker was there. Can anyone tell me what the timing numbers are?

Thanks

Re: 1979 F-100 Timing

I've got a 79 f-150 with a 302. I asked the same question on another site cause the plate was also missing on mine. I was told 10 degrees so it's atleast somewhere you could start at.

Re: 1979 F-100 Timing

if you cant find it just do it by ear. the factory specs out retarded timing anyways.(retarded as in degrees, not as in stupid) just rotate the dist. untill it starts pingin' then back off a bit and take a drive, as long as you don't hear detonation and it starts without trouble it'll be cool. i did this on my 78 460 and it runs and starts better than setting it by the book, plus different books say different things. one of the chiltons list timing for a 429CJ!
