1999 P/A Ultra Air Conditioning Pulley

On prior posts I posed the question of a bad bearing somewhere along the serpentine belt routes for the system or the supercharger. Assistance was given including the illustration for the pulleys on a 3800 series II.

I replaced the pulley bearing on the tensioner. However in a short period of time, when the air conditioning is shut off, the bearing in the air compressor pulley is loud. When air conditioning is on, there is none.

Can the pulley/bearing be replaced without removing the compressor? As with the illustration provided prior, it appears Dayco does not provide that part.

Re: 1999 P/A Ultra Air Conditioning Pulley

The problem might be the idler bearing on the compressor clutch, but somethings the clutch plates themselves make noise when disengaged due to incorrect clearance and loose clutch plate springs.

Re: 1999 P/A Ultra Air Conditioning Pulley

I posted this inquiry also on an air conditioning forum for autos. I was informed that the clearance is likely the issue since the bearing is quiet during compressor use. The sound can likely be solved by using a Mastercool removal tool with care to gap the clutch to the width of a business card.

Your input is appreciated.
