1995 Z34 (3.4L DOHC) Coolant Leak
1995 Monte Carlo Z34 DOHC.
So my belt has been squeeling for the past few times ive started up my car it basically goes away after awhile. I just noticed today that there are a few drips of antifreeze underneat my car. I checked the uppper, lower and by-pass hoses, they are all fine. The thermostat housing is also fine. The leak is right under the accesories on the passenger side, towards the front left corner (if looking down at the engine with the hood open) My guess is the front corner of the head is blown out a bit. Any input? This only proves that the 3.4L DOHC engine is crap... And if it is the head gasket, then im sure the rear head gasket is right behind this one..... so i might as well replace both of them, if that really is the problem.

Re: 1995 Z34 (3.4L DOHC) Coolant Leak
Put a pressure pump on to find the leak and that is an easy way to find the leak. You do not want to get inside this engine, you need the special tools made by Kent Moore made for GM which are not cheap. There is a special tool to hold the cams in time.

Re: 1995 Z34 (3.4L DOHC) Coolant Leak
Check the water pump. Very common issue on GM 60 degree V-6's , and it's located in spot you say the coolant leak is. Take the serp belt off, and see if there is lateral free-play in the pulley. Also look for signs of coolant leaking out the weep holes in the water pump casting.

Re: 1995 Z34 (3.4L DOHC) Coolant Leak
After another look, I think you guys are right, its the water pump. Good thing the pump is right upfront, i can't imagine replacing the alternator... bottm back of the engine. I think i'll take off the cooling resivor, then drain the radiator, replace the thermostat, replace the bypass hose (needs to be replace) and possibly the lower radiator hose, and then pull the waterpump off, replace it (of course making sure the surfaces are cleaned) then flush the entire coolant system.
I will make for damn sure its the water pump before i invest this time and money though!! thanks for the info
