1999 Monte Carlo water pump

How do i change the water pump in my 1999 Chevrolet Monte Carlo 3.1L? do i have to remove the main pulley?

Not sure what you mean by main pulley, but you will have to remove the pulley on the pump itself in order to remove the bolts that attach the pump to the engine. This link will take you through the steps:

The pulley for the waterpump,yes you have to and break the bolts by hand first with a very good 6 point 10mm socket.Those bolts round off real easy.you remove five 8mm headed bolts and clean the gasket surface very well.I have a tip: instead of scraping the gasket off,use a die grinder with a stainless wire cup that will not hurt the surface on the timing cover.Make sure to use ear and eye protection when doing this.The worst part is getting the gasket in the right spot.Those instructions are bogas,you do not have remove any hoses or have to disconnect the battery.There are no hose going to the water pump on the 3100.Those are for the 3800 series 2 engines.
