The lock for my ’99 Sienna passenger sliding power door locks (actuates) whenever I try to open it. Whether I use the remote or on-board “open” buttons or the inside /outside door handles, the door will lock and will not open. There is no beeping or warning light. If I repeatedly jerk on the outside handle and hold the lock open from the inside, I may get the door open. It closes and latches just fine.
I have reset the power locking system and checked for sticky weather stripping. I inspected inside the interior handle and lubed the button mechanism. The child resistant lock is unlocked. I have seen a posting about adjusting the lock cables or replacing part of the lock mechanism but there were no details. Has anyone else experienced this problem? Has anyone found much useful information in the repair manuals at Techinfo.Toyota.com? I have looked in a Chilton manual and it wasn’t much help. |

Re: Sliding door stays locked
Do you hold the door handle or remote button at least a second or 2?

Re: Re: Sliding door stays locked
The door lock does un lock with both the remote and manually. It just seems that the locking mechanism does not "un-lock" all the way if that makes sense. The button moves into the un-locked postion just fine.
It seems like the mechanism that actually opens the door checks to make sure it is un-locked before actually opening the door. Seems like something in the relationship between those two mechanisms has fallen out of adjustment. For example on the other door when it is un locked and you go to pull the handle you do feel it grab something that pulls the latch to open the door. On the brokern door the handle if almost free, with no resitance. Initially the way I could get the door open was to manually hold the lock button out as I pulled on the outside handle. When doing this you can feel the lock button engage in the mechanism that allows the door to release open. Does this make sense? I appreciate your quick feedback. |

problem solved
Toyota dealer charge $90 to determine the problem. The door lock cable need to be slightly adjusted. Works fine now. To do this they had tot take off the door panel. The adjustment its self took about 5 seconds, no tools.

I had the same problem yesterday. Both buttons on the inside handles stayed in when trying to open the doors and would not come out. As a result, the doors are locked and could not be open from the inside, as well as the outside. I just went back to the car with a can of WD40 which I sprayed heavily on and around the buttons. Then, I pried the buttons open using 2 pairs of scissors. It worked! I don't know if it will work for you and I hope it does, but I just wanted to add my own to this discussion. |
