buying a use car

im buying a used car and im really are not planning on spending too much, its just really for getting around the neighborhood & going to school about 2 or miles away and maybe sometimes out of state.

stats

1997 chevrolet malibu

4 doors, no cd player,

41k miles

there asking around $6000 and change for it.

---------------------------------------------

1999 plymouth neon highline

4 doors, no cd player

26k miles

offering 3 yr warranty

there asking around $8000 and change for it.

as you can see im looking for any car below $10,000 the two cars above look pretty good however since i am 6'2i noticed that the plymouth neon would make it Uncomfortable for who ever is sitting behind me while the malibu had plenty of room.. also i've done some researching and i've found that these cars have a history of problems well according the people who have owned them.

the neon:

brakes squeaking, gasket problems

the chev malibu:

major problems with brakes, gaskets.

i used this website to see what other buyers of the cars above had to say http://www.carsurvey.org/review_16566.html

any feedbacks on as to what car to get or any suggestion for a different brand of car under my price limit are welcomed.

I've been in the car business for 8 years...Neons and Malibu's are considered to be pretty unreliable. I would recommend buying a very good extd warranty.

If you want more room because of your height, you may want to purchase a used luxury car. I recently bought a 1998 Buick Regal GS and my husband who's almost 6 foot, said he's happy with the interior roominess. Plus he's enjoying the 240 hsp supercharged engine!

The first time I test drove the GS the dealer wouldn't go any lower than
$12,000.00. And the following weekend I was looking through the AutoTrader Mag and they had it listed for $10,000.00, plus another $1,000.00 off because of a coupon from the dealer in Autotrader mag. Needless to say I went down and haggled a little bit (over my trade-in), then bought the GS.

I'm planning on buying an extd warr. but not through a dealer, because they'll make interest off of it, if rolled into the financing of the car.

Extd warranties may cost some money, but if you might be buying a possible problem child, it will pay itself off and then some!
