Box Caprice Dual Exhaust pic request
Hi I recently went to a muffler shop and got an estimate on true duals for my 88 caprice. $600 w/o cats is what I'm looking at. They explained that they were gonna do the process where you cut the brace for the transmission and go from there. I noticed while searching the forum that many people have true duals by using the LT1 crossmember and all that. If possible can i get some upclose and personal pics of any true dual exhaust on box caprices. Including ones that have had the brace for the transmission cut. I appreciate any help possible on this matter. I can see the price droppin drastically if I can convince them to use some parts I bring from a junkyard.

Re: Box Caprice Dual Exhaust pic request
You can use the LT1 crossmember, but only if you weld an extension to the frame on the driver side, behind the current crossmember mount. The LT1 crossmember is too short to otherwise use.

Re: Box Caprice Dual Exhaust pic request
I've got an 89 with the single set-up. The cat is hollowed out and I put a Force muffler (generic Flowmaster) on it. I would be happy to find a company that makes a split pipe after the converter to run dual mufflers and tails. Does anybody know of such a part or another vehicle that has that setup so I could interchange the part? I figure some custom exhaust shop could do it but I enjoy doing it myself.

Silicon2, do you have pics? Did you use the tailpipes from a LT1 also? A welder is no problem.

Re: Box Caprice Dual Exhaust pic request
Another question is what about the floor? Looks like it needs to be banged up to make room for the drivers side hump on the LT1 crossmember. I'm guessing it would need to match the passenger side.

Re: Box Caprice Dual Exhaust pic request
These questions are why pics are so important to me. I'm a visual person so seeing it helps alot more than reading it.
Oh and I'm in MD so that $275 is a no go but thanks anyway. |
