Quick A/C Q - 2006 Silverado 1500

I'm asking this on behalf of a good friend who has a 2006 Silverado. The fan for his A/C fails to run if the switch is in the 4 or 5 position. I might consider it to be a resistor array, but it also could be a relay. It could also be the switch! For the more enlightened with these trucks, what would be the best place to start?

Is it auto ac controls or manual?

It's manual, it has the dual vertical sliders.

my truck does just the opposite. It just started happening. The Compressor turns on when I turn the switch, but doesn't blow until I go to speed 4 or 5. what did you do to the resistor block and how can I fix my problem?

I replaced the resistor block with a new one, which I obtained from Thorobred Chevrolet for about $40. It's located in the blower housing under the dash, near the motor (it's held in place with two bolts). There is a plug with about 6-8 wires that plugs into it, and there's a black and red wire that come out of it and plug into the blower motor itself.

Well, I finally got around to installing the resistor block. It cost me about $48 from the local dealer, went in very easy. The two bolts to remove the resistor block were 1/4". I used a socket/rachet. I had the most problem with getting one of the four small screw/bolts back in from the cover that had to be removed first. It is the second one from the driver's side and it is in a well of about 1-1/2". Part of the problem also is the access to it is somewhat blocked by the close proximity of the floor. After stuggling with it for about 15 minutes, I ended up using a small strip of duct tape to hold the screw onto the end of the 7mm socket, allowing the screw to stay straight or parallel with the socket, then I was able to insert the screw into the hole for it. It took me longer to replace the cover and the cover screws than to change out the resistor block. Thank you silicon212. It worked out great!!!
