A/C & Heater Power

My A/C and Heater do not produce enough power to clear my windshield moisture. It also takes a long time to cool and heat the car cabin. Only two air settings work on the dial: Windshield and Face. Also, the air does not work when the strength dial is set below "3". I am bad at diagnosing, but I can fix most things if I follow the repair manual. I would appreciate any suggestions and help someone could offer. Thanks.

Re: A/C & Heater Power

Welcome to AF. The blower speed issue is a bad blower resistor, very common problem on these cars. You'll continue to drop lower speeds until it only works on high. It's located in the heater box near the blower motor, which is under the dash above the passenger footwell.

If you've done any work under the hood around the battery, it's possible you cracked/disconnected the HVAC vacuum supply line. The modes are controlled by vacuum, and will default to 1/2 defrost and 1/2 floor when no vacuum is present. The vacuum line in question runs from the engine, along the passenger side subframe rail, around near the the battery, behind the washer fluid jug, then to the firewall.
