Fuel filter location

Does anybody know where the fuel filter would be on my truck? 04 Z71 ecsb 5.3 auto. I looked on the frame rails but couldn't find it. Did they put it in the tank at some point? Just curious because I have 75,000 miles on the truck and thinking maybe it should be repalced.

Re: Fuel filter location

No it should still be on the frame in front of the tank.

Re: Fuel filter location

Call your local Chevy dealer and give them your VIN and ask where the filter is located. On my '98 it's located on the drivers side frame rail. On your '04?? With 75k it should definitively be replaced.

Re: Fuel filter location

I beleive you will find there is no inline filter only the tank strainer.

Re: Fuel filter location

According to my documentation, your truck still has a fuel filter located on the drivers side frame rail near the cross member. It also says its behind a fuel composition sensor bracket, so it may not be readably visible.

I know you may already have done this, but actually run your hand up the fuel line behind brackets and see if you feel anything.

If I remember correctly, 04 was a mongrel year as far as fuel filters went, some have them, some don't.

Hope this helped.

Re: Fuel filter location

I too would like an official answer on this from somebody who knows for sure. In my 04, I've found a fuel filter (at least it looks like one) about 1.5 ft in front of the gas tank (drivers side obviously), but I've also been told there is one inside the tank. Anybodyknow for sure?
