Transmission Range Sensor REMOVAL HELP!!

Hello,

I have a problem removing the Transmission Range Sensor. I removed the two 8mm bolts and the central 13mm nut and the shift lever but could not take the sensor out. It seems like it is held back by a little nut (i think) on top of the center bolt. When I turn this it changes the shifting position like N to D ... but how do I take the center bolt out . I want to check because I don't want to do any damage. HELP!!

Thanks

I have never personally changed this part myself, as you don't have a response yet, I would visit www.autozone.com and look up the process under the free vehicle specific repair guides.

Thanks for they suggestion. I took a better look at the thing and it turned out all I had to remove was the two 8mm nuts and the center 13mm nut. The sensor just got stucked to the center bolt very well and I had to pry it out with a screw driver after soaking it in PBblaster and destroyed it in the process but since I was going to replace it anyway it was ok.

I am going through the same problem right now. I thought it was something I was doing wrong. I removed all nuts and tried to lift the lever up and it wouldn't lift. Is it just stuck or what? Is that all there is to this? How did you align it? Any info you have will be great. Thanks in advance.

Yeah, my sensor was stucked to the center bolt. There are 2 vertical grooves on the bolt that are aligned to the protruding lines on the center core of the sensor. This means you have to pull it vertically upward to get it out or just pry it out with a screw driver from underneath the sensor (but the old sensor will be destroyed because it's made of plastic).

To align it, before removing the sensor, put the car in neutral (use hand break). After putting the new one in, make sure you align the mark on the center core of the sensor with the letter "N".

Hope that helps.

I just put this in last night and it was stuck good. I went by ALLDATA's instructions. It doesn't have me put it in neutral first it just says remove. On the instalation it says to put in neutral but it wouldn't go on correctly. What I did was keep it in park because that was the only way it lined up with the manual lever. It starts in park and neutral so it must be good right? It is 1000 times different as far as shifting goes. I will read any codes i got tonight if there are any Thanks again and I will repost with what codes It has cured.
