Cool 99 Roadster pre-purschase questions

Greetings to all,

I recently sold my 1991 Lambo, which I had for about 5 years. I have the itch to get another one, my 911 isn't cutting it. I guess I miss abusing myself with bill from the repair shop.

I am looking at the 1999 Roadster.

I would like some feed back in regards to durability of paints? My Lambo was yellow, which held up very well. A good friend of mine, has a 99 black Roadster. He has really bad buffer swirls on the paint from having it waxed, it looks terrible!

Has anyone had a similar experience with different colors?

I have a broker searching for a Roadster for me now, I would like to know what to expect.

My color choice are:
1st purple, 2nd silver, 3rd red, 4th blue.

If anyone has any experience purchasing from a broker VS. authorized dealer, I would greatly appreciate to hear some tips.

I anyone has repair tips for the 99 Roadster, I would love to hear them also. My 1991 Lambo it was very well maintained but the repairs were very costly, partially due to the age.

Thank you for time.

I recently purchased my 99 chairo blue roadster and did some changes to it like HID lamp system, carbon fiber dash, carbon fiber shift knob and e-brake handle and beefed up the sound system. I like how there is no air leak sound when the top is on and how light it is- ( made of carbon fiber too) I would like to meet other people who have the same car to share the experience.

I recently purchased a Red '98 Roadster and am really enjoying it. As far as the paint goes, my paint job is pretty good. Of course the front bumper/air dam has a few chips in it but the rest of the paint is great. No swirls in my paint.

To remove your swirls you can use 3M's Micro Finish hand rub, doing one panel at a time. I think they recommend doing an area no larger than 3' x 4' at one time. I had a light sctatch on the top where it looked like a dirty towel was used for drying and it took that out nicely. Also, if you don't feel like tackling it yourself, you might consider having it buffed by a custom paint shop. If you do have it buffed, make sure they use foam pads, (not wool) and make sure they mask off the black rubber weather stripping. If they are a quality shop, they'll do these things without you asking but it never hurts to ask.

I went through a broker to purchase mine and it was well worth it. He was VERY familiar with the car and the market for the car as well as having many contacts with which to locate my car. I shopped for about two months and did tons of research on Roadsters and Coupes and the differences between model years to finally select the '98 Roadster. Once i decided which car I wanted, the broker negotiated the price for me (which was well under retail) and also set up the inspection with a knowledgeable shop. In fact, we found one problem with the car through the inspection and an allowance was made for it. In short, I was very happy with his 'service'. BTW, the commission IS negotiable and should be commensurate with the deal he makes for you.

Loving my new Roadster guys. It's a blast as I'm sure you already know. Have fun!

Paul

rwh138,

I'm sure you already know the basics and I'm sure your broker does too. ( clutch, syncros, paint condition, etc...) But make SURE you insist on an inspection by a knowledgeable shop or dealer and make the sale conditional to it.

Fmiliarize yourself with pricing so you know you are getting a decent deal. With a broker, you should be able to do better (price-wise) than if you boaught a 'Pre-Owned' from a dealer. That's an expectation you absolutely should have of your broker.

BTW, I would highly recommend purchasing a "Workshop' manual for your car from Italian Car Parts. I did and it's already saved me a bundle once. A reproduction cost about $250 and is WELL worth it. You can find them at Italian Car Parts

Good luck with your purchase and be sure and enjoy the hunt.

Paul B,

Would you be kind enough to post your brokers name? How is your local dealer treating you when you bring in your car for service? how much extra did you pay for the shipping, inspection, etc.? THanks.

Email me. I'll be glad to provide you with his name and number.

I have no local dealer. The closest service outfit is in Dallas which is about 180 miles from here. I do as much as I can myself. (fluids, electronics, etc.) A Workshop manual on the car really helps.

Paul B is right you should have it inspected before you buy the lambo. That shouldn't be too hard because you already have one and you probably had it serviced somewhere that you know well by now.
