I've generally had good results with Tamiya spraycans...did you heat up the can before using it?

Yeah, I did!! My first disastrous paint layer was applied cold from my airbrush on the white primer, since I didn't trust the nozzle on the can. This dried horribly. I sanded the body and applied the paint straight from the can. Although not perfect, it dried wonderfully! I have had none of the problems on this McLaren that I have had with white on my 1/12 Brabham. So it's a matter of "pilot error" instead of a faulty Tamiya product, I guess...
