Question VW bora brake pedal travel

Hi all, changed the offside rear brake flexi-pipe assembly on my bora (between rigid pipe and caliper) due to a fluid leak which emptied the reservoir.
Bled brake system conventionally and got out any air.
The problem is this..although the brakes work, the pedal has free play to about half its downward travel before any braking comes into effect with engine on. (With engine off pedal goes solid when pumping as you would expect.)

Thought at first there must have stiil been air in system so bled again..no change.

Any thoughts? What am I missing? Is there any adjustment on the pedal/servo/master cylinder on this car?

There is still air in the system if the pedal goes down 1/2 way with engine off

Re: VW bora brake pedal travel

No, with engine off the pedal goes solid at the top of its travel.
