Right front caliper sticks

98 Contour z-tec, Right front disc brake caliper sticks. It warped rotor. Can I repair caliper? or should it be replaced? The rotor is no problem to replace.
Thanks,
Don

Re: Right front caliper sticks

Replace it. I haven't heard of repair kits for calipers being sold in a long time. What brings you to the conclusion that its sticking?

Re: Right front caliper sticks

A good sign of a sticking caliper is pads worn on one side only.

Re: Right front caliper sticks

It's my sons car. I replaced the rotors and pads 6 months ago (worn pads chewed them up). He complained of bad vibration when braking. I drove the car and confirmed it was VERY bad. I examined brakes and found right front outside pad almost in need of replacement. I bought rotors again (a friend owns a parts store) for $18.00 ea. Replacing them cured vibration problem. I used car today and drove about 15 miles. I checked temperature of caliper through wheel and could touch left side but right side was extremely hot. I conclude right side was sticking and warped first rotor and will end up doing the same to the one I just replaced.

Re: Right front caliper sticks

Lift the front end up(both tires off ground) and see if the right side turns freely. If it does press the pedal and release while checking for immediate response at caliper(in other words when you release it wheel should turn). Check the rear brakes as well just to make sure everything's ok back there.

Re: Right front caliper sticks

By the time you spend money trying to repair the rotor, you would be better off buying a new one that you know works.
