2002 Explorer A/C clicking

I have a 2002 with manual air forn and rear. If you move the temperature adjustment off of the cold position, there is a constant clicking noise. I think that it might be the air motor assembly. The shop manual is no help.

Any ideas or advice?

Thanks

Jim

its called the temperature control actuator(motor). Go to a ford dealer buy one then just pop it in, you can access it by removing the 1/4 panel on the LH side at the rear of the vehicle(inside of the vehicle).

i fixed mine today was not able to remove the whole dash but i cut into the drivers side area underneath the steering column . i replaced the actuater and it worked i have heat again and no more clicking noises.i thought that it might be the blend door but i got lucky change that first and see if this works for you. good luck

Re: 2002 Explorer A/C clicking

One other thing to note is that when running your A/C (too cool or defrost) the compresser has an automatic shut off if it is low on coolent.

The compresser will then click on/off. You can see this by actualy looking at the compresser - the clutch will spin then stop, spin then stop.

Easy fix - add more A/C fluid - throw in some stop leak and ring oil while you are at it. Based on the age may need to swap from 12 to the 134. That's super easy to need to buy a fitting. Dump the 12 (but its probably gone anyway and then add in a few cans of the new stuff.

Re: 2002 Explorer A/C clicking

All vehicles sold in the US starting in 1994 needed to have the R-134a refridgerant, so his 2002 will have the R-134a.
