no crank after changing battery

I have a 2002 Bravada, and was running OK, but the battery was the orginal, and required replacing. I put the new battery in, and now when I turn the key the dash lights up, but the display says "unknown driver" and nothing happens. The dome lights , radio etc do not work. I hear the rear shock pump come on, and other electrical, fans, but thats it, also the remote keyfob does not work. I seem to think it has something to do with the VAT. The dealer wants to tow it back to his shop, so this is how GM works? Change a battery, and then have to have it towed back to get it to start? this is my last GM. This "high end" SUV has been nothing but problems.

I can't even fix with my 300.00 code reader, I have a VW Beetle TDI (love it) and has more milage, with 0 repairs or problems.

Wow, sounds like a security issue.

Re: no crank after changing battery

I have GM roadside assistance, they came to my house, tried it again, then towed it off to the dealer, waiting to hear. I emailed GM, and they called and left a message on my home phone, will call them today to see what they are going to do, as this is clearly a defect, this should not happen. The dealer told me there is nothing special when changing the battery on that vehicle.

Re: no crank after changing battery

******UPDATE*****
It seems GM may be getting better "cutomer" oriented, I first got a call from the dealer, and was advised that the PCM will need to be replaced, just under $500.00 cdn. I expressed my concern that changing a battery would cause this. On the Bravada this is the computer under the rear seat behind the driver. I then called home to my wife, who just got got off the phone with GM Canada, and about 20 minutes later the dealer called back telling me the computer is OK, they said they disconneted it and reconnneted and all is ok, I still got a change of 168.00 for their labor, still better then $500.00, but I believe someone got a message to the dealer of our disatisfaction with the prodicle, Now for my next what about the 2008 CTS? I am hoping better MPH

Re: no crank after changing battery

Glad your problem was solved.
I don't know about the '08 CTS, I'm still mad they couldn't get the Eldorado's right....but they sure are good looking. Maybe a future project to fix the Northstar.
