|
Is my powersteering out??
Whenever i turn the wheel too sharp to the left or right there is a loud screech from my car. Is it my powersteering pump? How much do they run and how hard are they to put in?

 Build on hold until I get a good paying job, either in school or once I get out. At that time a full tear down and complete rebuild should be in order. The Purple People Eater will ride again... January 2011 can't come soon enough.

PS pumps are super easy to install. Just had mine out today playing with it. It may be something else though. I had a leak in mine and once it got low on fluid it would screech also. Check your PS fluid levels. If low, fill, and see if that works. The dip stick thing on the PS resivoir isn't always the best. Check, even if full, add a little to it and see if the level changes.

Its probably just your belts, mine squeel a bit when I max the steering out. Try tightening the belt and see if that helps any.

If you turn in one direction all the way until the wheel stops turning and hold it there, you will hear a sound come from the pump because your putting a lot of strain on it. You would know if you had no powersteering, you would barely be able to turn the wheel at all.

mine also makes noise when i max it out, but it doesnt sound as serious as you are saying yours is.....

Driving without power steering is fun. Haven't had mine working in months. Best on the expressway seriously. Parking sucks, but it's worth it. You'll know when it's gone or going.
When mine was going, I'd be turning, and it would cut out half way through the turn. You know how many trees I almost hit because of that? I did hit a curb once.

I threw the belt off one time and had to drive home with no ps. It made the steering feel more solid but sucked at low speeds.
