I need a car mine was totaled.

I dont wanna spend too much money. I want somthing that will last me 3-5 years or so. I drive 20 miles to work and from work everyday so i need something that will be fuel efficient but I dont want something lacking power. It needs to be an automatic tranny, i never learned to drive a manual. Im looking to spend 2000-6000 bucks. Personally id like to find a car that needs an engine and or tranny but has a great frame, body ect. for like 1000-2000 bucks so i can just get my friend to help me rebuild the engine and tranny, get a little more power out of it.

Thanks guys

Re: I need a car mine was totaled.

Ok i found a 1995 eagle talon for 1200 bucks, it just needs a motor rebuilt. Turbo, all wheel drive automatic. Guy says everything but the motor is in great condition. I figure if i can put 1500 bucks in a motor and have a nice running car that would be great.

I don't trust the Talon/Eclipse to last 3-5 years, but if you are doing a rebuild then as long as you do the proper maintenence and break-ins you should be good.

Re: I need a car mine was totaled.

why dont you expect it to last 3-5 years? If i pretty much replace what needs replacing? The guy said the timing jumped. Is it possible in the rebuild to stop this from happening again, or for a very long time? Or do the motors just do it for some reason no matter what you do?

Re: I need a car mine was totaled.

Usually, there's always something you can do to prevent it, whether it was owner error or a defect from the factory. I would just head to the proper forum here for info on the reliability of the engine and doing a rebuild. That is a popular tuner car based on the Eclipse so that forum is very, very active with people who know these engines completely. They will be able to help you with a rebuild and maintenence better than I can.
