2000 Rodeo 'Slip Yolk'??

I recently bought a 2000 Rodeo off of a well known friend. In the last month or so it has started acting like it may have a transmission problem. Like you press down on the gas, but the car doesn't go....and then it does. Once you are over about 15 miles per hour, it acts fine. But when you are at a complete stop...it does it almost everytime you try to take off. I asked my friend if they had had any trouble with something like this and she said they had. She said it sounded like the 'slip yolk' and she went on to say they had had to have it lubricated a couple of times. Does this sound right to anyone else?? HELP!

A slip yolk issue is "usually" accompanied by a clunk or thump. If you check the FAQ's above this post you can read up on it.

When you apply gas, do the rpms go up and the truck not move?

Just out of curiosity, what is the tranny maintenance history for the truck? Last flush or fluid level check?

Yes, the rpms do go up. As far as the maintenance goes...the couple that previously owned the vehicle did EVERYTHING on the maintenance schedule. But, I've now had the truck for about 10 months...so maybe it's due. It has about 93K miles on it...but I don't know anything about anything. I just don't want to go to the mechanic and not know what they are talking about. I just don't want to get taken advantage of.

I don't doubt they did "everything" but I was asking if you had detailed information about the tranny maintenace. So I'm assuming you haven't done any maintenace (except oil changes) since you've owned the truck? I would find someone to at LEAST check you tranny fluid level and go from there. Perhaps your dad, brother, or male friend could help you with it?

How many miles have you put on the truck since you bought it?

If you do a search for tranny problems, you'll see there's tons of them.

no, when the rpms go up..it just kinda sits there...then it goes...then kinda sits again..then goes...and then we're off! haha! I didn't mean to imply that you meant that no maintenance had been done. Sorry. But we had a good chuckle at the 'have your dad, bother, male person look at it' because no men we know, know anything about cars. Maybe some girls we know

oh and we've put maybe 6k miles on it...and yes we've only had the oil changed.

Well, you're going to have find someone to help you troubleshoot the problem. If you read through the FAQ's there are instructions on how to check the fluid level. Most shops won't do this properly, so maybe print it out and have them follow the steps?

If a shop says you need a flush, don't to it until you determine the condition of the tranny. Again, you're problem may not be the tranny, but you gotta start somewhere.

So have your fluid level checked first before you spend money on greasing the yolk.

It's unfortunate if they went by Isuzu's recommendation for tranny service, because I don't think they recommend much more than checking the fluid level for many miles.
