Digital Horsepower PCM questions

What is "3-1 and 4-2 skip shifts (Active in performance shift mode only)" and why do I want it. Also this is pretty straight forward but "Shift points moved (5800-6000rpms) (Active in performance shift mode only)" again with the performance shift mode only, what exactly is that? And last but not least is this thing really worth the money, and if so are there better brands, or are they really all the same? Thanks for reading guys, I appreciate the help.

Re: Digital Horsepower PCM questions

It would help to post what year Grand Pix you have to include model. Reason is performance shift was deleted from the factory starting around the 2001 model year and up but there are kits available to restore it. Also, requires a re-programmed PCM module like the DHP.

Re: Digital Horsepower PCM questions

I drive a 01 GT Special Edition 3.8 V6. Could you elaborate a bit, I'm still missing the boat entirely on what the skip shifts, and what performance shift mode is. Also today, I read up a bit more on it and it has the 187 degree fan turn on I believe, or whatever it is. What is the stock turn on?

Re: Digital Horsepower PCM questions

Performance shift mode is a feature which allows the driver to control the transmission. For Grand Prixs that have it, there is a button located on the side of the shifter knob. What it does it firm up and improve shifting from stock. The indicator was either in the dash IP Cluster or on the DIC depending on what year.

Stock fan turn on is around 220 degrees for low speed, 230 for high.

Re: Digital Horsepower PCM questions

So I shouldn't really notice any big differences as far as daily driving is concerned, or am I still missing something big? By the way, thanks for all your help.

Re: Digital Horsepower PCM questions

Peformance shift is a nice feature but really not necessary. Gas mileage does drop when activated. For daily driving most leave performance shift off. May be a different story with a Mustang sitting in the next lane at a stoplight though.
