Outer CV boot
Hi Guys,
I just change my oil on my Rodeo last weekend and noticed that my both left and right outer cv boot is crack and spill grease all over my wheel. How difficult job is it going to be to replace both of it? Do I need special tool or not? I have not done this kind of work before if any of you have experience on this please help me, written up step by step on how to do it would be nice. Thanks. |

Re: Outer CV boot
It's not an easy job and you should replace both axles now anyway. The torn boots have been letting dirt and crud in and the grease out so they are damaged.

Re: Outer CV boot
Here is a write up on replacing cv boots.
http://www.4x4wire.com/isuzu/tech/CVboots/ If they are freshly broken you can probably clean and regrease them and just put on new boot. If they have been broken for a while or you dont know how long its been like that then the shafts should be replaced. Same procedure to replace the shafts as replacing the boots. Its best to get isuzu OEM shafts as they are stronger then aftermarket and you can replace just the shaft without the inner axle cup (major work involved in replacing that). Should be able to find plenty of good shafts in salvage yards. As long as the boots are in tact they should be fine, just put new boots on them.

Re: Outer CV boot
That's one disadvantage of having drive plates instead of unlockable hubs. With hubs you can simply keep them unlocked and the CV axles don't turn. Great for putting off the repair without doing damage to the joints.
