Re: Qld Model Hobbies Expo (QMHE) - August 25th-26th

Hi Stump, just got to add that these two pics of this vehicle have been described as greatly modified and scratchbuilt, have to say that describes this vehicle nicely.
It has been built by a fella from Sydney called Rhys Crosskill about twelve to fifteen years ago, he even worked with the pit crew for about twelve months, so as to get ALL the details correct.
Rhys has won many awards with this excellent model over the years at a lot of different shows. The strange thing is that at some shows, it would win and at others it would not even place, weird, eh.

Got a question for you now, did you notice what models WON the awards at the QMHE?
The way I see it, the judges are a bit one eyed on the military stuff, in other words according to them, if it don't shoot, it's $#!T. Rhys got a second place in the Scratchbuilt for this model, the railway carriage in the background got the third place.

What got the first place in the Scratchbuilt section you may ask, well the only model in the scratchbuilt that could shoot had to get it, noiw didn't it, a Napoleopnic Cannon and Limber, eh.

Hi mate, great observation..I've been to most of the 13 events, and I would agree that it is quite "one sided".............to a degree.....
Especially in the open catagories....ie, scratchbuilt......
The number of vehicles in their respective class' is always dwawfed by the number of military, air or figure class' entries.....we're a select few........

It's my second time I've had a close look at Rhys' great masterpiece......I fell in love with it down at Grafton a couple of years ago at Andy's Show...
Even got to meet the man and had a good chat....Went through his "build" album and saw all the great work on the car.....amazing.....

Back to Rob.......I heard a "rumour" (as I didn't get back on Sunday) that Rob picked up "BEST in SHOW".........................

Rob, can you please confirm this....??

cheers guys

Oh no... ooooooooooohhh nooooo...!

Sorry but the pilot in me can't help but comment... Stump, I took a look at your pictures (good work) by following the link in your post, and saw a fabulous F-16 Falcon build. I even noticed nice little plaque with Lockheed Martin on it.

I'm sure Lockheed will be pleased to know they've now been given credit for the F-16, but General Dynamics is going to be p!ssed...!
I hope he didn't lose places due to that, 'cos it's a pretty glaring error, but also an excellent build.

OK, pilot switch turned off.

Thanks for the positive comments Captain Mark.
Yeah, I appreciate a great build of anything, but being a "car" guy...things like that aren't obvious to me, so thanks for pointing it out to me.

I can't comment on wheather or not it lost him/her placement, but it would most definately be a shame if it did.....Great skills deserve credit. Hopefully someone pointed it out to the builder in a possitive manner, and not just say, HEY, YOU F***'D UP......that would be a big letdown.......(I've heard of it happening before...)

In all, it was another great weekend. Not sure on numbers (contest table) but the quality was very high....Gets better each year.

I'll hopefully get some thing completed for next year, but I don't expect I'll be a threat to Rob.....But I'll be there....

cheers
