04 Grand Prix GTP Cruise control problem

Before I go drop 300 bucks on a cruise control module, or god forbid, take my car to the dealer! I was hoping someone might have some ideas.

I can turn my cruise control on, it will hold for a very limited amount of time (5-45 seconds) and then it will disengage. No associated codes, the cruise just falls offline. I can immediately re-engage, but it only lasts a few seconds.

The car seems to be acting normal besides that, road surface and speed seem to have no affect. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you have aftermarket wheels? I've heard that sometimes wheel size can affect this. I also heard that if you run your spare donut, you won't be able to engage cruise until you get the regular wheel back on.
