1994 Jimmy Fuel pump Q's

Hello, I have a 1994 GMC Jimmy with 150k on it. It is a "W" vin code CPI unit. Driving home pulled over to fill tank and replenish my windshield wiper fluid. I then proceeded to go to start it up and nothing, just cranks. I noticed the lack of the Fuel pump whine.

Naturally, figured the fuel pump is dead. I have ordered a new one with sending unit, however I would also like to check the relay. Where is the fuel pump relay located on a 1994 model? Also any tricks and hints to replacing the sending unit. The tank is only about one year old. The other problem I am facing is the tank was just topped off with gas so it full. Any bright idea's on getting it out. Thanks

-Randy

Hi,

I had to replace the fuel pump on my 93 Jimmy and was able to go in thru the filler tube with some poly tubing and just syphon it. Unlike most cars with a filler that snakes around, the one on your truck is a straight shot to the tank. You won't get it all, but you will get enough to drop the tank. Get the remainder when you pull the pump.
I would also replace the fuel filter while your at it, unless it's been done recently. Few feet up the frame rail and a few bucks, a good investment in my mind.
As far as the relay goes, I'm not sure where it's located as I've never had to do one and don't have a manual. Check your local auto parts section for a Chilton's book. There will usually be an open copy out that you can use for reference. Or if you plan on keeping the vehicle for a while, that would be a good investment as well. Hope this helps.

Re: 1994 Jimmy Fule pump Q's

yeah. it happened to me too just last week. I don't know if yours and mine would be the same, but on mine the relay is in the engine compartment right on the firewall on the passengers side. Its 3 little black squares with wires going to them, and one of those is the fuel pump relay. If you want to check the wires and all that junk before you drop the tank, you can use a test light to make sure ur getting power to the pump.

if the fuel pump does not run on possibility is the relay failing. BTW, this thread is over 2 years old. please refrain from posting in old threads.
