93 LeSabre transmission problems

Hi
My 93 LeSabre (96k) started making noise right around the transmission bell cover ( this noise ,a sort of buzzing/whistling, would change with gear changes and acceleration)
Soon after the tranny would not engage but if I turn the engine off and back on the tranny will engage for a while and then go back to nothing.

I'm going to drop the pan and see what surprises are in there

Is my tranny shot ?

Most likely, you may find the filter clogged but that just points to internal component wear. Wait till it is apart, post back.

Re: 93 LeSabre transmission problems

I dropped the tranny cover and found 96k miles worth of sludge on the bottom, also the magnet was thick with it but no metal fragments

So I put a new filter in and new fluid and it seems to run fine even better than when I bought it

But i'm still hearing a whistling weeze coming from the general area of the bell cover (drivers side)
Could a component in that general area be defected either inside the tranny or above where the air intake and hoses are ?
Should I post another thread about the whistling and wheezing the engine is making ?

Thank for the response !

Re: 93 LeSabre transmission problems

Without actually hearing the nature of this noise on site it would be impossible to give any comprehensive advice, the trans could still be noisey, there are internal conditions in the chain sprockets that can cause this as well as internal line pressure issues.

Re: 93 LeSabre transmission problems

the sound you're hearing could be the torque converter or front pump assembly, but as Max stated, it's hard to diagnose without actually hearing it.

This won't work, have a trans shop or tech listen to it and see what they say, at some point you will need professional intervention here.
