Re: 1995 windstar door light

Try spraying inside the door latches with penetrating oil to see if problem stops. If it does, you have door switches that are failing and will need to be replaced. if the spray stops the noise and turns lights out, it is only temporary.

Re: 1995 windstar door light

Spray the rear-door latches as well - this solved my 'ajar' problems a couple years ago. After months of repeatedly slamming the side door trying to get it to stop, not to mention sanding the side-door contacts (to no avail).

I had the same problem and it went away after replacing the ignition switch.

Re: 1995 windstar door light

I have a related but mire significant problem. When the vehicle is running, the door ajar light stays on along with the chime, and the inside light stays on for a long period. Fiddling with the key position in the ignition switch sometimes can make the chime stop.

When the vehicle is parked (including being locked) the inside light stays on for a very long time - sometimes hours. Informal discussions have indicated that the insulation on contacts on the sliding doors are subject to serious deterioration and can result in symptoms I experience.

Can anyone shed further light on this, and is there a simple, even temporary, cure? Replacing the contacts is a major surgery.

Thanks

Re: 1995 windstar door light

I had this problem on my 1998 for a long time-- door ajar light on, inside lights on and chime going until I hit 15 mph, and lights staying on after shutting the engine, until the battery saver shut them after 1/2 hour. Someone on Car Talk
called in this week with the same problem, on a 95 Windstar.

After becoming convinced it was one of the door switches, I took some electronic tuner spray that I had for other purposes (from Radio Shack) and sprayed a lot of it in all four switch locations-- 2 side doors, sliding door, and the tailgate. It worked immediately-- though I should have done it one door at a time to find which one was the culprit. Anyway, it has remained fixed for several weeks; if it recurs, I'll just spray some more of the stuff-- one door at a time.
