99 voyager MYSTERY!

I have a 1999 grand voyager which has always had a bcm problem(flashing interior lights, door chimes, locks popping and alarm setting itself off) since I bought it. After about 6 months the van all of the sudden started cutting off while driving, it kinda throws itself forward and cuts off. I checked fuel pressure, battery, etc. Everything okay. So I replaced the bcm, and after I tried to start it and it would start and cut off immed. Eventually it wouldn't even turn over. So now I have a dead key. I assume the bcm is working, the locks and alarms are working. I have power to radio, lights, etc. I have checked the starter, alt, and relays. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks alot.

Try this--Open the hood, then put the key in the back liftgate and put it to unlock position then put the key in the ignition and go from off to on. This should enable the VTSS(Vehicle Theft Security System)
If the vehicle is equipped with the Vehicle theft system it must be enabled when the BCM is changed or it won't start.
Worth a try I think.

According to your descriptions, the trouble may have changed a bit from when you first changed out the BCM. Any chance you still have the old module to reinstall it and see where you stand? Possible you might have some additional problems.

Re: 99 voyager MYSTERY!

Unfortnetly no, I gave it back for a core charge. (YELLS) I can turn the van over if I jump it from the starter so I am thinking that the problem lies somewhere in the ignition area. It seems that everything is working but it just won't start. Is there anything that could cause these problems? I believe the BCM is working fine because all the locks and lights are working and the security system is operational. I really appreciate your help.

Re: 99 voyager MYSTERY!

If I'm looking at this correctly, you connect the jumper cables to the battery as normal, it won't turn over. You connect them to the starter, (I'll assume the positive cable to the battery lead connection on the starter), and it turns over. If that's the case I'd say at least one of the battery connections (depending on how jumped), either the ground at the frame or block or the positive lead from the battery to the starter is open or has high reisistance. Look for loose/corroded connections. It's not unheard of for these cables to fail internally under the insulation.

Too many assumptions there. Exactly how are you connecting the jumper cables?

Re: 99 voyager MYSTERY!

Check all your grounding points and/or straps. An incomplete or highly resistant portion of the circuit can leave no power left to hit the starter.

Also: as goofy as it sounds, if your key...your ignition key...has a bad circuit/chip it can cause the car's security system to shut the car down. I had this happen with my wife's Merc Sable. We checked everything normally associated with nonstarts, then found the key problem, switched to another key...problem gone.

Re: 99 voyager MYSTERY!

update: there is a problem with some grounding with the fuses. a new mechanic has told me they think it is the PCM. does anyone know if this sounds correct? my husband manually grounded a certain fuse and the van will turn over but not crank.
