1995 Lincoln continental problem after problem.

I just bought my cont. the other day from my grandfather. He was selling it cause the transmission he just got put in there died on him to and he was tired of messing with it, so I bought it from him and thought I could try something with it. The transmission slips really bad and it wont shift out of any gear very well if I can get it there and it very rarely will go over 40mph. Oh yah after he had the transmission put in the car started to leak oil??? I dont know why but it does now and the other day it was really cold out and it was hard strarting but it did come around, the next day it was still cold out and it would crank but wouldnt turn over and again today I tired it same thing. I saw that others had the same problem but not on the transmision part. I was going to try and change the transmission filter soon but it seems I have another problem now. I could really use some help because I dont know much about cars.

Thanks,

Zach

1.Transmission wont shift.
