1996 Grand Am 2.4 spark at all 4 plugs at same time?
I am working a 1996 Grand am w/2.4. The trouble is in the spark ignition. What would cause all for cylinders to fire at the same time. I replaced the ignition coil housing with no fix. After that did not work I made a trip to the salvage yard a bought a complete cover with all hardware attached including the ignition housing, coils, electronics still attached and tried with no fix. Every one that I have talked to never has heard of my situation. I have about 5 hours into trouble shooting and ran across all plugs firing at same time by accident when I hade the cover plugged in upside down cranking it over testing each plug individually with a grounded jumper wire when I noticed more than one terminal creating a spark at the same time. after noticing that a stretched the uninsulated jumper wire across within 1/4 inch of all terminals and every one created a spark at the same time. What's up with this and what could be the problem? ECM?

Re: 1996 Grand Am 2.4 spark at all 4 plugs at same time?
Sounds like the ICM is not firing correctly.
Either a crank (or cam if your 2.4 has one) sensor could be causing the wrong firing order. Was the either of the ignition housings new ? Are all the injector firing all at the same time also ? Could also be a ECM issue... Good hunting and Welcome to AF.
