**NEED compressor help??
I have a 2000 Durango 4.7L. The compressor is bad and I am trying to buy new one and have it put in since my mechanic says he would have to charge me $500+ for it. I have bought 3 so far and none fit. The first was actually for the 5.2/5.9L which I thought it was at the time. The next 2 was one I got at a used parts place and the other was off ebay that was refurbished. Both were supposed to good for any durango 4.7 from 98-03 or somthing like that. My mechanic (who I kinda trust) said when he went to put in the last two the openings on the compressor for the Hi/Low hoses were bigger than the hoses. Are there actually 2 different kind of compressor? SOMEONE HELP........ |

Re: **NEED compressor help??
I have been in that situation numerious times. The Proper procidure for replacement of any part,is to be sure you have the engine code. It is the eighth diget in your Identification numbers on the vehickle. Every compressor may have different mounting sizes, depending on models. I always take my old part with me, when buying new or used parts. It seems to be a must anymore, when buying anything. Most new compressors cost from 250.00 to 475.00,used ones about half that. Hope this will help you get right part.
