Unhappy Please help

Ok, so I have had my 03 eclipse for about 2 weeks now, and it may have been happening before but I just now realized it. When I am accelerating an any gear, between about 1700 RPMs and 2200 there is a REALLY high pitched squealing. It's not super loud, just loud enough to hear and be annoying. When I let off the gas it goes away, and it is just in that area of the RPMs. Can anyone tell me what this might be, ,thanks

Re: Please help

Almost sounds like a belt that is starting to slip a little.... You may want to check the belt for any abnormal wear and tear like missing portions of the ribs or better known as the teeth but the run the lenght of the belt instead of accross the belt. I would start there and work my way around..

Re: Please help

Thanks, and yeah, it is kind of like a whistle. Like one of the dog whistles. Really mettalic sounding. But I will check the belts to make sure that that isn't the problem. I'm headed off to work right now so I will let you know what i find out tomorrow.

Re: Please help

I think it's just your intake. All of ours make that dog whistle sound.

Re: Please help

if you have an aftermarket intake that might be it. otherwise check your pulleys and belt. but it would be an uneven squeeling if it was your pulleys or belt.

Re: Please help

If you installed an aftermarket cold air intake then the the noise you are hearing is the air entering the intake. it sounds like a sissy little turbo or something lol....

Re: Please help

Ah they both have about the same little whine to them, if you have delt with them them before you can tell the difference between a turbos whine and a chargers whine.... The main difference it that when you let off that turbo it releases all the power a charger just winds down with the motor since its connected via a belt.... I have a short ram induction on my car and it has a soft subtle whine to it every time I shift and the air flow rate changes sounds kinda like a very very small turbo or charger but its loud enough to hear over my exhaust and yes ive had a few ask if thats the turbo making that noise....

Turbos dont really whine, regardless of the size. And depending on what kind of supercharger you have, it wont necessarily whine either. Centrifugal superchargers sound nothing like a screw or roots type supercharger. Turbos hiss/whistle and usually have much louder blow-off (of course it all depends on boost and what type of BOV you have...anyone who has heard a mad boosted Supra knows that a big turbo can sound like a hurricane, there is no mistaking that sound). Anyone who thought your intake sounded like a turbo obviously knew nothing about FI.

Chances are that there is either a loose/bad belt or pulley, or your car just has a quirk like the rest of ours and it might just make noise.
