Need some advice.
I have a 1993 3000GT SL that i recentley bought it has 111k miles on it, and i need to replace the clutch(it doesnt drive anymore). I was wondering in anyones opinion (professional or not), If i should just purchase a stock clutch and flywheel or get like a stage 1 or 2 clutch with a lightened flywheel, I plan on eventually putting some performance into it but I'm not exactly sure when(capitalism is a b***h). I was thinking to go with the stock ones because OEM standard clutch and flywheel would run me like 270 bucks from napa but the stage 1 organic clutch I was looking at is like 400 bucks and flywheel about the same. So basically I'm asking would the racing clutch/flywheel hold up longer than the OEM ones, or would the OEM ones be a waste of 270 bucks?

if it were me i would just stick with the OEM equipment. Unless your gonna do a TT conversion in the near future, the stocker will handle the power fine. Also, racing clutches can be a bitch in normal day to day street driving. Unless your planning on doing some track stuff, i would steer away.
as for longevity...you gotta figure that its probably the original clutch in there now...which means it lasted for 111kmi. Pretty freakin good for a wear part and i wouldnt expect to go beyond that with anything. ive also heard of people having problems using lightweaght flywheels...cant remember what though. Hopefully someone else will post as well. oh yea, welcome to AF! |

Im with blink... Stick with a stock clutch, they can hand power, cheaper, and you can look forward to them fitting correctly for sure (some aftermarket parts have fitment issues)
Ive heard that the lightweight flywheels make driving a little bit more difficult, esp in traffic, but i cant remember the reason.

Yeah I have a light weight flywheel in my black 3000 and it sucks to drive in traffic.. you have to be at ATLEAST 2000 RPM and let it out slowly but even with that.. it hooks and just wont let go!! (I also have a 6 puck spec clutch though)
