Cooling fan won't turn on - even with AC engaged
So my cooling fan wont turn on. Doesnt matter if the car is hot (into the red) or the AC is on.
I checked the fuse and replaced the relay. After replacing the relay it seemed to come on for a while but then started heating up again because the fan turned off. Does this sound like a fan motor problem or something else? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks! |

Re: Cooling fan won't turn on - even with AC engaged
I had the ECTS replaced about 2 years ago. It is my understanding that if the problem was with the temp sensor that the fan would still turn on if the A/C was engaged.
Since I had the temp sensor replaced already and the temp gauge seems to be reading correctly and the A/C wont turn the fan on I've eliminated the temp sensor as being the cause of the problem. Does this sound right? |

Re: Cooling fan won't turn on - even with AC engaged
try running the fan directly off the battery/alternator to see if starts up reliably. It could be bad. If that checks out, then plug it back in and try forcing the relay coil to energize and do the same thing, making sure the relay is engaging reliably. If that is good, it has to be something upstreamof that such as a corroded ECT sensor connector or something.

I replaced the fan motor and now everything seems to be running perfectly.
Thanks everybody for your advice! |
