Ford Escort 99 213k Miles ? Is It Worthy To Buy It?? Help Please??

Hi....I just found this car for me to buy. It will be my first car. I only need the car for city driving, I live close to work and I dont go out of the state or even far from where I live.

I really like the design, the body style, the engine, the mpg, and the other specs of this car...

But the problem is...the car has 213k miles. The dealer (small dealer) told me the car had one owner only (he might be lying...) and that the guy changed the timing belt already once and took good care of the car.

The price is 1500 dollars. Ford Escort 99 ZX2 2 DOORS. Thats how much he is asking for the car...

Should I buy it??? Is it worthy it?? What things in the car should I look as possible problems like...water pumps? air filters? alternator? fuel gauge?? another timing belt??
Please help...

Thank you very much...

You should have a mechanic check it out thoroughly. And get a CARFAX report for the car. Well worth the 25 bucks here. I don't trust it personally but you never know. The way I see it, 1500 may be close to what the dealer put into it to get it in "selling" condition and is recovering the costs. However, its a good car for you needs which is very basic transportation so do the above and if it checks out, go for it.
