Help for Escort and ZX2 Idle Vibration

I have been told that the following is a TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) for an Idle Vibration in 1997-2002 Escorts, and 1998-2003 ZX2's. I haven't tried the info. yet, but am hopeful that it will be a Godsend toward helping with this most distressing problem. (I'm well aware that Motor Mounts are most frequently suggested as the cause of this problem).

Regarding Technical Service Bulletin # 03-15-15
I went to the local Ford Dealer today, to ask about doing this TSB work. (basically repositioning the engine in my 2002 SPI 4 door Escort), in an effort to reduce the AWFUL Idle Vibration. I just bought the car last Nov, 2006, with 59,000 miles on it.
Anyway, the Ford Service guy gave me NO encouragement AT ALL, that the procedure would help at all to reduce the nasty Idle Vibration. MOST DISCOURAGING! So, the cost would be somewhere between $250, and $300 he said.
So my question to you nice people is: has anyone on this forum ever had the procedure done to their Escort, and DID IT HELP the terrible Idle Vibration? (you can sometimes see the steering wheel shaking pretty violently).
I don't have any money to waste, but I sure would like to get this vibration (shaking) improved!

Bad idle vibration on 97 Escort. I, too, got the TSB on vibration. I didn't take it to the dealer as proposed. My wallet is not a bottomless pit. I did it myself and here is how:

I loosened the through bolts and nuts on the motor mounts. One on top of the engine and two on the bottom of the tranny. I know there is a third, but I couldn't get to it. I placed an 8" by 10" board under the oil pan and jacked up the engine until the motor mounts stopped moving. Then I let it down 1/2 way which was about a quarter of an inch. Then I torqued the motor mounts to 67 lbs. ft. I still get a little noise but no vibration at all. Ford says to do much more (take the crossmember out) to achieve the same effect. I don't know about that. I do know that bad plug wires will make an engine vibrate. Maybe it's time for some of them. They are relatively cheap and could be the problem.

Thanks Dave!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Your response is TRULY appreciated! I can't do ANY work on the car myself, but maybe I'll eventually be able to find someone who can. As for the plug wires, I had someone pull a plug about a week ago, and this guy (a mechanic) showed me that the plug looked OK. Also, I didn't see any sparking (leaking) from the wires when I looked at them at night. So that probably means they're ok, wouldn't you think?

Yeah, if they don't spark at night they are ok.
