94 grand prix security light, wont start

Hey, i have a 94 grand prix 3.1L with 160,000miles. it was having a problem where i would turn the wheel and the car would die, and the security light would come on. so i asked around and came up with the solution that it could be the ignition switch or the lock cylinder. Sure enough when i removed the steering wheel there was a broken wire comming from the lock cylinder, so i replaced the cylinder and switch. i have done this before on "w" bodies and never had a problem. Now the security light is on ,i get power to everything but the starter. ive checked fuses, replaced the relay, and i can cross the solenoid and crank the engine but it will die right away. I really need some help on this one. I used a lock works brand cylinder and a wells switch. Also the key with the new cylinder doesnt have a chip in it like the other one but i was told buy the parts guy that it made no differnce.
