2003 Stalling out
2003 Taurus SE. 65,000. New air filter. The car will crank fine, everything works, alarm, radio, windows, lights, etc. After I put in Drive and move, will drive fine until I have to stop or slow down, then go to idle the car quits. No shudders, nothing, just quits. When this happens the brake, charging system, and oil light comes on. It will crank right back up, and as long as I keep giving it gas runs fine.

Re: 2003 Stalling out
Sounds like you may have an Idle Air Control (IAC) failing, an Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve that is not closing properly for some reason, or maybe a tune up issue (spark plugs, plug wires, fuel filter).
Based on the symptoms though, I'd start with the IAC. Does your A/C work? If so, turn it on and see if the engine idle speed drops and stays low, or remains at a good speed. -Rod |

Re: 2003 Stalling out
Thanks. It was the IAC valve , synchronizer, sensor and PCV hose. The synchronizer alone was $427.50 and ombined with the other parts and labor total came to $784.00. Does that sound in the ball park?
How important are these items: Emissions system flush, upper engine mount, hub bearing, inner tie rod ends Last edited by Walsott; 08-05-2007 at 07:18 AM. |
