1999 ford tuarus revs up to long

i have a 1999 ford tuarus 3.0 v6 se and it runs perfect except when i rev it up in park or neutrual it will rev up fine but when i let off it stays for about 1 second, its not a big problem its just annoying and i dont know whatd going on. please fill me in.

Maybe if you stopped revving the engine in park or neutral, the issue wouldn't be annoying. Revving the engine in park or neutral is not really recommended, and I can't think of really any time it would be necessary or beneficial.

i know this i dont rev it up on purpouse its just when i do its annoying and it might effect how it drives later on and idont know how to fix it not a wiz at tuarus's

It doesn't sound like what you're experiencing is anything out of the norm, but not hearing it in person, I'm not sure what is normal. Since the engine is not really under much load in park or neutral, there is nothing to rapidly slow the engine speed in this situation.

You can check the throttle plate for carbon or other build up that may be keeping it from closing quickly, as well as binding in the throttle cable to be safe. If the throttle plate is clean and the accelerator cable is not binding, then I doubt you have a problem.

At idle, what is the engine speed on your car?
