91 Toyota Camry broken axle to flange
Need help asap! I'm working my sis's Camry. Don't know how the hell she broke this but somehow the driver side axle broke right off of the drive flange that's on the auto transmission. Don't know what that piece is called but the 6 studs broke off into that flange and now I can't get them out so I can put a new axle back on. How can I get this flange out? Does it just pop out like an axle? There is this piece that the flange is inside of that seems to bolt out. I took off the bolts but it won't come out. It just spins. I think it's the side seal or something but I just need to get that flange out somehow. Then I can at least try to take them studs out. Help!

Re: 91 Toyota Camry broken axle to flange
Might be something here in the Front Driveaxle or Automatic Transaxle files. This manual is at the top of the forum under the Factory Service Manuals thread: http://www.camrymanuals.com/index.ph...04#article_104

Re: 91 Toyota Camry broken axle to flange
sounds like the inner CV joint broke off. You can leave the flange on there and just get another reman'ed half axle which bolts onto that flange, but you need to get the sheered off studs of those bolts out of the flange to make it work. Maybe some sort of bolt-out from Sears would get those out? You would of course need to buy a new set of bolts from the dealer. If that is not possible, then you will need to buy the whole half-axle and pop the flange out of the differential. There is a snap ring installed on the driveshaft within the differential which holds the axle in behind that flange. I think the only way to get it out is to pull like hell. Maybe use 2 pry bars placed on each side between the CV flange and the differential to use as leverage. It should eventually pop out and you will see what I mean. See the autozone procedure here:
