Axle help on a 91 bird

Ok I race a street stock class on a dirt track and my car is a 91 thunderbird with the irs and 8.8 rearend center. Last week a guy spun me while another ran into my rear tire bending the upper control arm down aand breaking the axle. I know this is a situation not most of u will be in but i jsut need to no how to change the axle and replace everything b/c both cv boots are ripped as well. This car handles to great for me to think about replacing it with a solid axle so can someone please help as soon as possible I have 2 weeks until the next race.

Re: Axle help on a 91 bird

you need a new upper control arm and new half shafts along with the half shaft nut (they don't like to to be reused - i know) any way the upper control arm is held on with an 18mm nut at both the center support and the spindle, remove the nuts at both ends and pull the control arm out, tis would be a good time to get new bushings, those bushing wear pretty easily and really mess up the ride, i believe they have poly bushings avaiable from supercoupeperformance.com give it a try

the axle nut is held in place by a 35mm socket IIRC a good breaker bar is your friend, you'll need to make sure you break these loose while the tires are still on the ground or else you'll be upset

once the upper control arm is unbolted from the spindle you can pop the half shaft out using a 3 arm pulley i recommend the 6 ton pulleys you can rent from AZ for $40 makes the job alot easier
