Transmission help

I have a 2000 Venture LT. I,m having a problem with ocassional rough shifting. This is accompanied by a high pitch whine from the motor. If you turn off the car and wait 30 seconds and go again everything is fine. It can happen several days in a row or run fine for months. been on going for over a year. dealership can't find a problem and it is not throwing any codes. Seems to be caused by quick aceleration, hard braking or after the van has been running awhile you turn it off and then very shortly back on. When its not acting up it is very smooth. Dealer has kept for days at the time and will never do it for them. Any thoughts?
Thanks,
Greg

Welcome to AF. A full scan with a trans function scanner is needed here, usually this is caused by the problematic pcs solenoid that controls trans pressure sticking, thus the hard shifts. Maybe a pending p1811 code.

Re: Transmission help

Thank you for your reply...just for argument sake..the dealership claims they have done all the scanning possible and it has no codes...say they can only diagnose if it will do it when they have it...thus the several days at a time they have kept it and found nothing...any other thoughts or just find someone else to look at it..
Thanks,
greg

They know, based on your description what the most likely causes are, but to get into it and possibly repair the wrong of 2 or 3 possibilities is not what they are going to do, drive it till it is more consistent.

Re: Transmission help

Greg

I have ex-ac-tly the same problem since 2 weeks.
It began when I was on a journey in Sardinia island in Alghero.
Air T raised to 100 F and the transmission shifted rough and whinning too.
I stop and wait for 30 minutes and all worked fine.
Anyway it seems this symtoms appears when fluid T is high particulary driving in hot T at low speed.

Any advices is welcome

Re: Transmission help

I have a 2000 Venture that has been doing hard shifts periodically for the past 2 years (no transmission whine though). The hard shifts have been occuring more often so I took it to a transmission shop & was told that the EPC (electronic pressure control) solenoid is the problem. I was quoted 5 to 6 hours labour plus the solenoid at a cost of $600.
